This is my new blog dedicated to my itouch experience. in this post i’m going to discuss what apps i feel have helped me with my stage management work.
When we first got the ipod touches way back in november i was really excited, i was so looking forward to being the first to experiment in trying out mobile learning. I was looking forward to trying out different applications and experimenting with them whilst working on shows.
I started going down the productivity apps, as i thought this would help with my organisation, I found alot of great little apps like calenders (smartime) and list taking (Forgot the milk), these were great little handy apps and a great taster to whats available out there. I think these were really handy because they were so simple to use, the interface on both applications made easy to change and add events giving me more time to be involved in the task i was in. so it was a great time saver.
When we received these ipod touches we were working on Opera 1, so i was trying to think what great little apps i could put on the devices to see if it would make a difference to the way i worked, And i was lucky enough to come across a smart app called ” File Magnet” – this app allows me to upload any file (PDF, WORD,EXCEL, ETC) and view them oin the touch, i found this handy because i had my running list for opera one on here, which helped a great deal, having that information at the touch of your finger was great, it made me feel better because i had a electronic backup with me at all time just in case my paper copy was lost, and during the show i actually used this method on the touch than paper, as it was easier to read, no torch needed or changing over the page, just a quick simple swipe.
last couple of weeks i have been experimenting with different apps, i have downloaded “Ifirst aid” which is a great first aid resource just incase i have to use it, touch wood i don’t. and “MY files” which is like file magnet, but it uploads the files onto a internet server first then when itouch is in wifi area you can download/upload content, which makes it easier to control my files.
lastly i have found my favourite app so far, its called “saisuke” this app is my electronic filo-fax. its a great calender and organizing app, but i think it makes it more special because it can have a 2 way sync to google calenders which makes any changes from computer/ipod sync up nicely and make my life much easier. i also found a little app called “simplemindX” its an electronic mind map app which has helped me take notes more clearer and makes it easier for me to understand which is great in classes and note taking.
So to this far in the experiment, i have found having one of these touches a great aid in my learning and makes me feel more confident in becoming a better stage manager.
